Myanmar upgrades six major airports

YANGON, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has upgraded six major airports in terms of safety and security by installing new equipment bought from Japan under a bilateral aid program, an official report said on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the Japan International Cooperation Agency has donated equipment and vehicles worth 1.233 billion yens (12.33 million U.S. dollars) to the ministry for upgrading the six airports of Yangon, Mandalay, Nyaung Oo, Heho, Thandwe and Dawei.
The ministry revealed that the six airports are used by about 3 million passengers per year.
The country has about 70 airports handling an estimated 4.4 million passengers every year.
