¥120 bln yuan to be invested for constructing Hekou Port

Source:   Time:

A total of ¥120 billion yuan will be invested to improve Hekou Port in Hekou Yao Autonomous County in the southern part of the Yunnan province of China. Honghe River is expected to be the most convenient international shipping passage in Yunnan.

During the period from 1889 to 1935, Tins exported through Honghe River had taken up over 80% of China’s total production. Compare to 18,431 ships passing Hekou Port in 1907, much fewer pass it now. With the development of highways, railways and shipment, Hekou’s economy will be promoted in future.

A ship will set out from Hekou Port, through Yen Bai, Viet Tri and Hanoi, and finally reach Haiphong in Vietnam. An 164-acre land has been planed for Hekou Port. Free trade zones and warehouse zones will be included. Moreover, supporting facilities will be constructed in Honghe Wharf, Beishan Wharf, and Shanyao Wharf in the port.

Hekou’s value of imports and exports has reached ¥4.4 billion yuan during the period from January to September this year. China-Vietnam and China-Southeast Asia trades have been increasingly developed. The voyage from Hekou Port to Haiphong Port is 486 kilometers long. Haiphong is the nearest port for Yunnan to reach sea.
