  In 2008, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Yunnan Province reached 570.01billion RMB yuan, an increase of 11% over the previous year calculated with constant prices. The GDP per capita reached 1,842 dollars. The fiscal revenue is 136.02billion RMB yuan.  

  Progress has been made in agricultural restructuring. Grain production, animal husbandry, and fishing industry registered a steady growth and agricultural production conditions continued to improve with intensified efforts in rural infrastructure construction. At the same time, Yunnan accelerated the implementation of a new strategic model of industrialization and the strategy of strengthening the province's economy through the development of the secondary industry. Industry witnessed a rapid increase both in the growth rate and in efficiency and it has become the major engine of Yunnan's economic growth. Economic returns of industrial enterprises increased by a big margin and the construction business maintained a rapid growth rate.

  To date, a convenient modern transport network radiating from Kunming and a post and telecommunication network integrating multiple means of communication have been put in place. Yunnan has established trade and economic cooperation relations with more than 100 countries and regions in the world. Foreign trade has taken on a more important role in propelling economic growth of the province.
