PHNOM PENH, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia hosted an international food and hotel exhibition here on Wednesday with an aim to further promote tourism industry, officials said.

The three-day event, held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center, gethered more than 250 exhibitors, showcasing everything that hotel, restaurant, and food and beverage outlet operators need, said Andrew Siow, director of AMB Events Group.

Exhibits ranged from meat, seafood, juices, wine, spirits, beer, coffee, bakery, kitchen equipment and supplies, toiletries, and furnishing and beddings.

"We know how difficult it is to source for hotel and food and beverage supplies in Cambodia," said Siow, organizer of the expo. "By having the exhibition here, operators and owners will no longer need to travel overseas."

He said the fair featured products and services from 23 countries and regions, including Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, China, and the United States.

There will be national hospitality competitions, where chefs, food and beverage and hotel staff compete in the culinary, bartender, cake decoration, flower arrangement and bed making.

Tourism Minister Thong Khon said the event would contribute to attracting more foreign tourists to Cambodia.

"The hospitality competitions will be an opportunities for chefs and hotel employees to exchange their experience and to lift their professionalism and expertise," he said at the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the minister called for local and foreign investment in hotels and restaurants in the cultural city of Siem Reap as the existing hotels and restaurants could not meet the growing number of tourists during the high season.
