JAKARTA, March 4 (Xinhua) -- China turned out to be the largest importer of Indonesia's non oil and gas commodities last year, followed by Japan, the United States and India, a senior trade official said here on Monday.

"China has the largest value of Indonesia's non oil and gas export last year with 20.9 billion U.S. dollars," Deputy Trade Minister Bayu Krisnamurti said.

Japan ranked second among the top five export destination countries with total export value of 17.2 billion U.S. dollars, followed by the United States with 14.6 billion U.S. dollars, India, 12.4 billion U.S. dollars, and Singapore, 10.6 billion U.S. dollars.

Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and the Netherlands came later on the list, said the deputy minister.

Indonesia also saw significant export growth in several other markets regarded as new export destination countries last year. Exports to Pakistan, for example, grew 48.1 percent to 447.9 million U.S. dollars.

Exports to these new markets, which also include Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, Djibouti, Yemen, Ivory Coast, Algeria and Oman, ranged from 51 million to 343 million U.S dollars and rose by 4.7 percent to 164.3 percent, said Bayu.
