Jakarta, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese investor, locally known as PT. Fujian Industry, has partnered with PT. Seram Jaya Perkasa to set up a special economic zone in the regency of Seram Bagian Barat (SBB), Maluku province, local media reported Monday.

"Five-thousand-hectare plot of land has been made available for the special economic zone," said Jakobus Puttileihalat, SBB's regent. "It is now ready for realization as details and design of the project have been prepared by a Chinese consultant."

A memorandum of understanding has been signed in the presence of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who was on a visit to China in March, he said.

The Regent added that he hopes the central government could provide support to facilitate the implementation of the project. " It would provide jobs for tens of million people if the special economic zone becomes a reality," he added.

Under a master plan, the economic zone will accommodate factories including nickel, aluminum, ferro-nickel, coal processing, steel and stainless steel.
