Kunming making efforts to develop ties with sister cities

A conference of sister cities in China, Japan and South Korea was held on July 31 in Kunming. Zhang Zulin (张祖林), mayor of Kunming, delivered a speech on cooperation and development ties with foreign cities.

Zhang said China, Japan and South Korea have established good cooperation to enhance their common interests. So far, Kunming has developed sister city relations with more than thirty cities around the world, including Fujisawa and Takayama City in Japan, Koyang City in South Korea.

Zhang also said the scope of cooperation has been extended to agriculture, science, education, tourism, including environment protection, municipal government administration, transport, protection of aged town and construction of low-carbon cities. Besides, Kunming has borrowed 2.31 billion yen from Japan to control the water environment of Dianchi Lake. "Bus priority policy" has been introduced from Zurich, sharing 40 percent of the transport. Kunming has regularly dispatched personnels to visit cities such as Pohang, Koyang, Mandalay and Rangoon.

Kunming is willing to take the opportunity of the conference to enhance the friendly relations with its sister cities, developing cooperation on education, culture and science.

Mayor of Fujisawa and lieutenant governor of Chungchong Namdo also made speeches on the conference. (Editors:Lynn,Minnie Mao)
