JAKARTA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese and Indonesian officials said here Thursday that they will work to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The pledge came from a meeting between senior Chinese political advisor Li Jinhua and Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Taufik Kiemas.

Sharing extensive mutual interest, China is willing to work closer with Indonesia to increase cooperation, properly handle various challenges to ensure the long-term stable growth of the strategic partnership, said Li, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Li also said he hoped the CPPCC and MPR would further increase exchanges and deepen understanding so as to put new impetus to the bilateral ties.

Kiemas hailed China's economic achievements and its role in regional and international affairs, saying Indonesia would work with China to maintain the sound momentum of the relationship and contribute to Asia's development.

Li started a good-will visit to Indonesia on Tuesday. During his stay in Jakarta, he also met with Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono, president of the Association of Indonesia-China Economic, Social and Culture, as well as party and think-tank representatives on bilateral relations.
