Yunnan spurs tourism cooperation with SEA & SA

“The 2nd Competition of Chinese Songs in Vientiane,Laos” was held in the capital city of Laos Vientiane in April. Cooperations between Yunnan and Southeast Asia and South Asia are skyrocketing on culture, education and tourism etc.

Early in 1996, Yunnan Province expatiated its construction target as “province of rich ethnic cultures, striving for developments of cultural industry and cultural exchanges with foreign countries. Yunnan has dispatched 15, 000 people to Southeast Asia, South Asia and other countries and regions in the world for cultural exchanges over the past years.

Yunnan has expanded 3 markets, namely, Southeast Asian & South Asian cultural products, cultural elements and cultural consumption based on the similarity of cultural resources and complementarity of cultural industry with other countries. The epic drama Angkor Wat Mysterious Smile of Buddha was staged with immense success in Cambodia last December, which was a key to markets in Southeast Asia and South Asia.

2009 Yunnan Education Exhibition Tour—Educational Forum was held successfully in India and Nepal, enhancing the cooperation between Yunnan and Southeast Asian countries. Cooperation agreements has been signed between Yunnan Provincial Government and the Nepal’s Ministry of Education, and 24 agreements has been reached officially between 8 schools in Yunnan and ministries of education of India and Nepal. At present, Yunnan has established 4 overseas Confucius institutes, 1 Confucius classroom and 13 mandarin training centers. And 15,000 foreign students who are mainly from Southeast Asia and South Asia are in Yunnan for studying.

A group of 41 people, including government officials from 17 provinces in north Thailand, tourism departments’ officials and reporters paid a visit to Yunnan in December, 2008. They have surveyed travel lines centered Xishuangbanna and Kunming. The formation of tourism circle among China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, mainly around regions of Kunming-Bangkok Expressway, Lancang - Mekong River, has been pushed by the beautiful sceneries and convenient transportation in water, land and air. Cooperation about the mutual destination marketing, mutual tourists’ dispatches and trainings between Yunnan and countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia has been launched. Rules of Transnational Travel Lines in Golden Quadrangle Regions and Shangri-la-–Tengchong--Myitkyina Transnational Travel Lines have been planned and formulated. “Lancang-Mekong River Golden Tour” and airlines and land travel lines from Kunming to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Giang, Phnom Penh, Angkor, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Rangoon, Mandalay, Myitkyina etc have been open to traffic to boost the development of frontier tourism and transnational tourism.(Reporter:Lynn,editor:Minnie Mao)
