For 23 years, no major forest fires have been reported in Hekou Yao Autonomous County, a county along the Sino-Vietnam border, according to a China National Radio report.

The local government has attached great importance to forest fire prevention, maintaining border forests and social stability.

Hekou is an autonomous county in the southern part of the Yunnan province of China. It is a part of the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture and borders the northern Vietnamese town of Lao Cai, covering 62,798.2 hectares in total forest area.

Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu urged local authorities to intensify efforts to prevent forest fires. The senior Chinese official also ordered the country's forest fire prevention departments to come up with emergency response measures to be implemented as soon as fires break out, Xinhua reported recently.
