China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in Kunming

The China-ASEAN free trade zone was officially established in the last year. The bilateral trade volume has increased by 38% and the two sides have established important partnership since then. In response to the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the recent international financial crisis, the Indian Ocean tsunami and other natural disasters, the two sides have always supported each other and helped each other to overcome the difficulties. In the field of social and cultural exchanges, the two sides have carried out a variety of activities to consolidate the basis of good neighborliness and friendship. In international and regional affairs, both sides have shared similar positions, promoted mutual coordination and cooperated jointly to safeguard the regional peace and stability.

 

Before the meeting, the Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, foreign ministers and senior officials of the ASEAN countries attended the Ceremony of the China-ASEAN Friendship Exchange Year. 

 

In the evening of 25th, the provincial government held welcome dinner for distinguished guests in the Kunming Empark Grand Hotel. Vice Governor Gu Chaoxi hosted the dinner. Bai Enpei, Secretary of the Provincial Committee, Chief of the Standing Committee of People's Congress, Thai Foreign Minister Kasit•Piromya, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi addressed respectively at the dinner. Qin Guangrong, Provincial Governor, Yang Yingnan, Secretary-General of the Provincial Committee of the CPC, Qiu He, Secretary of Kunming Municipal Committee of the CPC and Ding Shaoxiang, Secretary-General of the provincial government attended the dinner.

 

Thai Foreign Minister Kasit•Piromya addressed on behalf of foreign ministers the ASEAN countries.
