Yunnan to attract more tourists from Singapore

SINGAPORE, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Yunnan Province is now trying to attract more tourists with its unique natural resources and culture from Singapore and other countries in South Asia, said He Chikang, deputy director of Yunnan Tourism Administration, here on Monday.

"We received about 120 million tourists in total last year, and predict the number will reach to about 130 million this year," He said at a Yunnan Tourism Promotion conference here.

Yunnan province is a tourism destination familiar to and loved by tourists from Singapore, which is attractive to a large number of Singapore tourists every year due to its natural and cultural heritage and unique folklore.

According to statistics, Yunnan had received 123,000 tourists from Singapore in the first 10 months of 2010, making Singapore one of the top ten major tourist source countries of Yunnan.

He said that as Kunming-Bangkok International Highway is completely open to traffic, the number of tourists from Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore to China will rise sharply.

"Yunnan owns the variety of natural resources, the pleasant climate all the year round, the unique culture of minority and the geographic advantages which link to Singapore," He said. Therefore, the Yunnan Tourism Administration has the faith in attracting more foreign tourists including Singaporean to visit and enjoy Yunnan's culture.

The Yunnan Province pays much attention to communication and cooperation with Singapore in the tourism field, He said, stressing that Yunnan regards Singapore as its partner to promote tourism markets.
