Yunnan’s sugar output accounts for 20% of China’s total

Yunnan’s sugar output has reached 9.4132 million tons, accounting for about 20% of China’s total during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) period.

Sugarcane planting areas in Yunnan province have increased from 3.6729 million Mu in 2006 to 4.5063 million Mu in 2010 and the number of sugar enterprises has reduced from 48 to 28 during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) period.

Meanwhile, the average purchase price of sugarcane was RMB 194.74 yuan per ton in 2006 and in 2010 it has risen by 43.78% to RMB 280 yuan per ton.

Sugar industry has become the second largest agricultural product processing industry in Yunnan. Besides, it has taken many steps to improve its utilization of wastes.
