China Economic News in Brief: China coal imports; Jiangsu sugar import; biggest railway station

BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are some China economic news items in brief.

CHINA'S COAL IMPORTS FROM MONGOLIA TOPS 10 MILLION TONNES

China imported 10.95 million tonnes of coal from Mongolia in the first three quarters of this year, according to sources with the government of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

There are 14 ports along the border between China and Mongolia.

JIANGSU'S SUGAR IMPORTS UP MORE THAN 50 PCT

East China's Jiangsu Province bought from abroad 170,000 tons of sugar in the first three quarters of this year, a 51.7-percent year-on-year increase, the local customs house said Thursday.

Between January and September, Jiangsu imported 48,000 tonnes of sugar from Australia and 31,000 tonnes from Cuba.

RAILWAY STATION BEING BUILT IN TIANJIN

Tianjin West Railway Station, believed to be the largest in Asia, has had its main structure completed in Tianjin, an industrial center in northern China, the project contractor confirmed Thursday.

The station will be a transfer hub connecting the Beijing-Tianjin railway, the Beijing-Shanghai railway and Tianjin-Qinhuangdao railway.

The station is expected to accommodate 23.67 million passengers a day eventually.
