ASEAN+3 Youth Travellers' project wraps up in Thailand

BANGKOK, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The ASEAN+3 Youth Travellers' project under the name "Discover Thailand" which aims to encourages the educational tours for the ASEAN youth on Saturday evening wrapped up its journey here.

The campaign initiated by Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports, which coincide with the current Youth Travelers' Year.

Sombat Kuruphan, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Sports said at the closing ceremony that the past six days in Thailand has reshaped youths perspectives on the importance of their role in creating green tourism, especially strengthening sustainable tourism cooperation in ASEAN+3 or ASEAN and China, South Korea and Japan.

"Moreover, having opportunities to share common culture and value in this event will not only benefit to the process of ASEAN integration as indicated in the group's Charter, but also to the better understanding and closer ties among new generation of ASEAN+ 3 countries," he said.

The campaign follows the theme of discovering the hidden treasures and places in Thailand that many of the youths may not have experienced before. They have a chance to explore all the fascinating sights of Thailand for one week, starting on the Sunday till Saturday. Both the Thai and ASEAN+3 youths, which also includes youths from China, Japan, and Korea, travelled a round trip to Bangkok and many other places of interest, such as Ayutthaya, Petchaburi and Sukhothai.

Along the way, the youths have been given the chance to bond and build on the relationship between the countries through experiencing the Thai lifestyle and sights. The trip also advised them on the facts of tourism that affect the environment and how they can help prevent the many environmental issues that are caused by tourism.

The Ministry is aiming for Thailand to be the tourism central of Asia, and is pushing this campaign to be the bridge to reach their objectives for the policy by educating the future generation of the ASEAN countries about tourism and Thailand.
