High-speed rail to reduce travel time from Kunming to Shanghai to only 4 hours

The construction of Changsha-Kunming section of the Shanghai-Kunming Passenger Dedicated Line (PDL) began in July this year. A total investment of 267.76 billion yuan is expected to connect Shanghai and Kunming via the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan, passing through the major cities of Hangzhou, Nanchang and Changsha length of 2053.67 km.

Travel times between Kunming and Changsha, Shanghai and Beijing are expected to be reduced respectively to only 4, 8 and 10 hours after the completion of the Shanghai-Kunming PDL.

The Changsha-Kunming section stretches basically along the existing line of Shanghai-Kunming PDL. It will be connected at the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR), which implies that the Changsha-Kunming railway is not only helping improve transport between Pearl River Delta and southwest China, but it will also beef up connections between China and ASEAN. 

Yunnan creates 222,000 new jobs in the 1st 9 months this year

The job market in Yunnan continues to improve and witnessed an increase of 222,000 in the number of new vacancies in the first 9 months of this year, reporters learned from the Office of Human Resources and Social Security on Oct. 20th.

A total of 60,676 households got help to win at least one job. And 747,600 rural persons got jobs in towns and cities in transfer of rural surplus labor force. Besides, small business loans amounting to RMB 1.25838 billion yuan have been given to help create 80,000 jobs.

Yunnan’s annual rural tourism income expected to reach RMB 25.4 bln yuan

Over 200 typical tourism villages are expected to be built in Yunnan by 2010, and the annual income of rural tourism will reach up to RMB 25.4 billion yuan then, reporters learned from a meeting on rural tourism.

Yunnan rural tourism has been developing rapidly. The next construction plan is to build 6 districts with different themes across the province. Up to August 2010, 4887 rural tourism reception centers have been built. It has become a bright spot of Yunnan tourism industry.

The 2nd Mengzi Cross-bridge Rice Noodle Food Cultural Tourism Festival has kicked off at Mengzi County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province on October 21. The county plans to apply for the name of “China’s well-known city of special food”, and declare a place in the Shanghai Great World Guinness Book of Records for a tin bowl that has a diameter of 2.228 meters during the festival.

Mengzi is the birth place for many firsts of Yunnan and China: China’s first private railway, Yunnan’s first customs, post office, foreign bank, corporation and consulate, as well as thermal power plant, etc.

Cross-bridge rice noodles are a traditional Yunnan dish born out of one woman's desire to provide her husband with hot meals.
