China, Vietnam to deepen military ties

China's, Defense Minister, Liang Guanglie has arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam for an official visit and to attend a security conference of ASEAN members.

Liang Guanglie has already held talks with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee. Liang says military cooperation is an important part of bilateral relations. He says China and Vietnam have maintained frequent high-level exchanges in recent years, and deepened cooperation through military training, political work and border security. Liang also says, China will work with other parties in the region to safeguard regional peace and security.

Liang will then attend the ASEAN plus 8 Defense Ministers' meeting which starts on Tuesday in Hanoi. He's expected to elaborate on China's defense policy, and proposals on regional security cooperation.
