Indonesia, China sign agreement on "Science & Technology Week"

JAKARTA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian and Chinese governments had signed on Monday the agreement to hold "Indonesia- China Science and Technology Week" slated for next year.

The signing of the agreement was conducted by senior officials with science and technology agencies of both countries, witnessed by Chinese delegation leader, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology Li Xueyong and Indonesian State Minister for Research and Technology Suharna Surapranata.

The signing on the pact called "implementing agreement" was an implementation of the 4th Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) between Indonesian and Chinese officials that was held on August 3 this year.

The JCM meeting mandated the two governments to hold such an event in 2011.

The event is aimed at gathering scientists, researchers and scholars from the two nations to discuss and exchange experiences on science and technology issues.

The "China-Indonesia Science and Technology Week" event would be conducted in the forms of conferences and exhibitions on science and technology.

In his remarks during the ceremony, Li Xueyong said that China will send its two astronauts, Zhai Zhigang and Nie Haisheng, to Indonesia next month.

The Chinese astronauts who had experiences to orbit the earth with Shenzhou capsules are scheduled to hold discussions and share their experiences with Indonesian scientists, scholars and students.
