Myanmar eyes more trade cooperation with China's developed regions: top leader

SHANGHAI, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's top leader Than Shwe here on Friday said he expected China's developed regions to participate more in bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Than Shwe made the remarks when touring China's financial hub Shanghai, saying bilateral trade and economic cooperation now was facing great prospects.

Than Shwe, chairman of Myanmar's State Peace and Development Council, said he included Shanghai and China's first special economic zone Shenzhen in his visit to learn from China's experiences in reform and opening up, and promote cooperation between Myanmar and China's developed areas.

Than Shwe arrived in Shanghai Thursday evening after touring Beijing, and he will also travel to southern coastal city Shenzhen as the last leg.

"Myanmar will be China's important partner of trade and economic cooperation in the future," he said, noting bilateral cooperation in energy, power, transport, infrastructure now was being developed.

During his stay in Shanghai, Than Shwe also visited the 2010 World Expo, and met with Yu Zhengsheng, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

He will conclude the five-day visit to China on Saturday afternoon.
