The 2010 Thailand Festival in Kunming kicked off at Nanping Square of Kunming this morning (August 6). It is a part of the Dianchi Pan-Asian Cultural & Arts Festival.

Standing Committee of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Kunming Municipal Committee Mr. Qiu He (仇和), Deputy secretary of CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and governor of Yunnan Province, deputy Secretary of the CPC Kunming Municipal Committee and Mayor of Kunming Mr. Zhang Zulin(张祖林), Consul general of Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kunming Mr. Vichit Chitvimarn, Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming Mr. Roseli Abdul, Consulate General of the Union of Myanmar in Kunming Mr. U Myo Tint, Consulate General of Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Kunming Mr. Chen Jin Bang(陈金榜), and etc. attended the opening ceremony.

Mr. Vichit Chitvimarn, Consul general of Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kunming, said, “Today, Thailand and China jointly to commemorate the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. We are organizing this event to further strengthen economic ties, trade, investment and folk communications between Thailand and Yunnan Province. The Thailand Festival is organized to promote Thai goods, services, tourists, cultures and educations.”

“The 2010 Kunming Thailand Festival, as part of the DCOA events, will surely be a dazzling display of infinitely rich Thai cuisine, culture and arts”, Mr.Zhang Zulin(张祖林) said at the opening ceremony.

Zhang Zulin added: “Being one of the most important tourist countries in Asia, Thailand is a beautiful land blessed with unique natural advantages, rich tourism resources, breath-taking exotic scenery and fascinating Buddhism culture.”

A total of 55 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand and Thai-funded enterprises are showing their products and seeking cooperation opportunities. Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Chaing Mai University and other university in Thailand are also come to recruit students.

The event will be held at Zhengyi Road (正义路)Walking Street in Kunming from August 6 to 10.
