Chief Adviser, Gu Xiulian,

Distinguished guests, leaders and member representatives, Dear friends,

Good morning!

Today we are assembled to celebrate the founding of the Association for Economic Cooperation and Trade Promotion Between Yunnan and Southeast and South Asia (hereafter called the Association). Let me begin by extending, on behalf of the Association, the warmest welcomes and my gratitude to all the leaders, guests and friends, especially to Comrade Gu Xiulian, former Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, for  taking time from her busy schedule to participate in the conference and to offer encouragement for us.  I would again like to sincerely thank her for honoring us with her presence.

The associators and trustee council placed their trust in me, and I was elected the Chairperson of the Association. I am greatly honored and look forward to the challenges ahead. I will work closely with my colleagues at the Association to blaze new trails, forge ahead, and create a beneficial future by working together with you.

During the preparation for the Association, we received support from Gu Xiulian, former Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the NPC. She listened to our reports twice and gave us prudent instructions. Comrade Wang Zhongyu, former Vice Executive Chairperson of the CPPCC, sent a congratulatory message to the conference. We received support from the Provincial Committee of the CPC,  the Provincial People’s Congress,  and the Provincial Government and the Provincial CPPCC. Bai Enpei, Provincial Party Secretary; Qin Guangrong, Provincial Governor; Wang Xueren, Chairperson of the Provincial People’s Congress all took time from their  schedules to listen to the reports and sent congratulatory messages. Some venerable former leaders helped with the organization and gave advice. We also received support from the China-ASEAN Association, the China Association of Enterprises, China Entrepreneur Association, the Overseas Chinese Federation, the WTO Research Association, the Law and Trade Research Association of China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone, six Consulates in Kunming, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Provincial Civil Affairs Department and other Provincial departments, the Kunming Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government. We are

grateful for all the support we have received and it will greatly motivate us as we work towards our goals.

The Association is a non-governmental guild, acting as a bridge between the CPC, the Government and enterprises, helping the members of the Association to voice their needs and make appeals.  How to exert the role of the Association, support decision-making of the government and serve the commercial sector is an important as well as difficult issue which requires further attention. Therefore, we need to continue working to carry out the policies and strategies formulated by the Central Government, the Provincial Committee and the Provincial Government on widening our interactions with the outside world and accelerating the establishment of an international passageway in Southeast and South Asia. We will both nurture a stronger service awareness and improve the service quality. We will improve business operations and internal management regulations, provide sound primary management and improve overall work methodology. We will be efficient while keeping a low profile instead of advocating grandiose plans and talking big. We will enhance research, befriend entrepreneurs, and learn about the difficulties that the entrepreneurs encounter during commercial cooperation and communication. We will understand their needs and facilititate effective solutions to their problems. We will meet their individual concerns and provide personalized service to entrepenuers while continuing to serve the greater public good.

We will enhance communication and cooperation with Southeast and South Asia non-governmental associations, enterprises and other organizations both in and outside Yunnan to create mutually beneficial partnerships which will facilitate the opening of our region to the outside world. In a word, the Association will win confidence and reputation among its member units by steadily doing practical things for the enterprises instead of tokenism. Only in this way, will the Association truly reflect its mission of serving the enterprises.

Vice Chairperson Gu, distinguished leaders and guests, entrepreneurs: thank you very much again for your support to the Association. We cherish your support and humbly use it as motivation to fulfill our goals..

Thank you!
